The Amalgamated Union of app-based transporters of Nigeria(AUATON) lamented the gruesome and incessant killing of its members in some parts of the country, particularly the ravage killing of three members of the union in Porthacout Rivers state and another member in Galadimawa Abuja yesterday.
The incident in the Porthacout metropolis involved three of our member working on the bolt app, seem like a coordinated attack as the killing and rubbery happened on the same day between the hours of 7.30 pm to 10 pm in Wopara Street, Old GRA, and Abakiliki by Nanka street and Diobu respectively.
The attack that led to the death of comrade Emmanual Daniel was a shocking one as he was said to be driving to a pickup location where he was attacked after receiving a call from the passenger to highlight at the point and his car was snatched away leaving behind a wife and three children, comrade Roland Asuru and comrade John Okon were both shot dead and their car was snatched away by this suspected rubbers leaving the members of their family to disarray, there was another failed attempted to snatch member of app-base based transporters yesterday broad day light at GRA, CFC Roundsbout, and Ekeme, igbo-Etc tohe Junction Porthacourt according comrade Lorencia AUATON Exco Porthacourt.
According to comrade, Jossy Adaraniwon, AUATON Media chairman, There was another report of brutal killing and car snatching on our member in Abuja yesterday at the Galadimawa area of Abuja
It is pathetic and unacceptable that within two days app-based transporters of Nigeria will lose four of their members and seven cars in the course of carrying out essential service to members of the public due to inadequate security measures and intelligence to avert the plans of these deadly rubbers.
The union has been making a call on the app companies as part of a measure to prevent security breaches to profile riders adequately by making means of national ID a prerequisite for all passengers before they can board or take a rider on the app but they have been very adamant and watches our members to die a preventable death even without justice and compensation.
As a registered trade union with the responsibility to protect our members against preventable circumstances like this, we are making a call on the federal government as a matter of urgent to direct the Ministry of Transport, science, and Digital Economy or any relevant ministry to direct these application companies to captured NIN of the passenger before ordering a ride, at the same time work with the union on the regulatory framework for the industry, we are also calling the governor of River state, FCT minister and the police authority to facilitate investigation and bring these deadly killers to book while we the family of this deceased are compensated adequately by the government and app-company.
